The Journey Begins

Good company in a journey makes the way seem shorter. — Izaak Walton

Welcome to our informal, mixed group who all enjoy recreational cycling. We meet Friday mornings throughout the year and cycle as a group in many different areas of Kuwait. Rides are anything between 20 and 40 km long depending on the terrain, and the group proceeds at the pace of the slowest rider. Members of the club take turns to plan and lead the rides. During the main season from October to June, we like to use desert tracks. In the summer, rides are somewhat shorter and earlier in the morning, mostly in the shady suburbs.

What equipment do I need to join the rides?
· An appropriately serviced bike
· A helmet (preferred but not mandatory)
· At least one, but preferably two, spare inner tubes
· A working pump
· Puncture repair kit – for those awful days when two tubes aren’t enough
· Tire levers
· A multi tool – to adjust gears etc
· Money – for the cafe stop

Ride Leading
On each ride there is one leader, who is responsible for planning and leading the ride; deciding the route, pace and stopping points. Please do not ride in front of the leader as other members may follow you instead.

What is the etiquette of group riding?
· Respect other riders – be courteous and anticipate mistakes
· When you are on the front of the bunch you are the eyes of the bunch. Point out obvious dangers, pot holes, car doors, pedestrians etc
· Use lights when riding in low light conditions

Ride Preparation
Riding in a group has many advantages but it also places certain responsibilities on each rider. Punctures, mechanicals etc, whilst often bad luck, can be less of a trial if certain precautions are taken before the ride:
· Make sure your bike is safe - check brakes, wheels, rims and steering
· Also ensure that nothing is loose. A lubricated chain etc is also a good idea
· Check your tires - tires which are not puncture resistance are the single biggest preventable cause of punctures - multiple punctures, apart from being a pain, won't endear you to other riders waiting for you on a hot day!
· Make sure you know how to fix a puncture - practice beforehand if you need to

Where will the next ride be?
We use whatsapp to inform members of the ride meeting place, start time and other useful information.
